James Albury is the director of Santa Fe College’s Kika Silva Pla Planetarium and he is also a co-host of the nationally syndicated PBS television program, “Star Gazers”. This program is the world’s only weekly television series devoted to naked-eye astronomy. Each weekly episode features selected objects in the sky for naked-eye viewing during the upcoming week. James' passion for astronomy began when he was very young and over the years he was mentored and inspired by several key people in his life. This mentorship led him to fulfilling his dream of being who he is today. His involvement with astronomical outreach spans over 30 years and as you'll see, he's quite passionate about what he does.

Although astronomy is one of the oldest and most beloved sciences, getting the public interested in astronomy can be a challenge. James Albury, director of the Kika Silva Pla Planetarium at Santa Fe College, Gainesville FL and co-host of the PBS television program “Star Gazers”, will discuss these challenges and the opportunities we as lovers of astronomy have regarding public astronomical outreach.
