IMPACT FROM SPACE

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 21, SCAS Astros welcome premier speaker Dr. Nebil Misconti, retired UCF professor, who will present his exciting program IMPACTS FROM SPACE 8 p.m. FIU Physics lecture hall CP-145, Modesto Maidique campus. 

Dr. Misconti grew up in Baghdad, Iraq. He attended University of Istanbul, Turkey and came to Mexico and then completed his graduate studies in the United States. His adventures  involved astronomy research, and media problems in the Middle East. He will discuss the threat of asteroid collisions, solar astronomy, interplanetary dust, new protective armor against Star Wars laser weapons, views on global warming and more!! Autographed copies of his book "An Immigrant's Journey Into The Cosmos" will be for sale. Lively discussions and refreshments will conclude the free SCAS program.Check with your instructor for XTRA CREDIT.!!!

HALLOWE'EN STAR PARTY 

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 28, Southern Cross Astros will arrange hi-tech equipment in the dark outback at the Fruit & Spice Park, 24801 SW 187 Avenue, Homestead for Family Fun Night 7-10 p.m. Enjoy Park activities and view planets, Andromeda Galaxy, and deep sky mysteries overhead. Learning is fun for all ages with Southern Cross Astros. Bring chairs, blankets, binoculars and bug repellent to the SCAS Hallowe'en Star Party. FREE.  Park: 305-247-5727.

VETERANS STAR PARTY

FRIDAY NOVEMBER 11th  sunset - 9:30 p.m.Bring family, friends, military vets and wounded warriors to enjoy a Fall Evening Under the Stars from a very dark sky site in Shark Valley, Everglades Nat'l Park, Tamiami Trail. Arrive earlier for tram rides and photo wildlife in the Everglades. Flocks of birds glide into the trees at dusk. Last Tram at 4 p.m. Bring chairs, blankets, binoculars, cameras, bug repellent. The SCAS Star Party will be held on the new observation deck at the end of the parking lot. FREE. 305-225-2001.
